5 Ifta Plus changes

IFTA Plus has been helping prepare IFTA fuel tax returns for over 5 years.  We have prepared returns for thousands of customers and manage billions of miles for companies.  Recently we rebuild the application from scratch to provide a faster, better experience.  Here is a breakdown of the biggest changes:

1)  Navigation.  Before, all navigation was pushed to the left of the screen.  Now all the navigation is located at the top of the screen.

2) Driver Qualification, Hours of Service, and Fleet Maintenance.  These modules are no longer in IFTA Plus.  However, you still have access to them at www.complydot.com using your existing  username and password.

3) Fuel and Mileage Entry.  Before, there were several pages where you could enter your fuel and miles.  Some people used the odometer records page.  Fuel had its own page and Mileage had its own page.  We have combined all these pages into a single interface.  Now, you can see all your data from a single page.

4) Preparation.  In the previous system, the checkout process could be as many as 7 pages long and asked the same questions over and over.  This process has been streamlined to a single page.

5) Payment.  IFTA Plus can prepare your state IFTA return.  In addition, we can prepare your Kentucky Weight Distance return, New Mexico Highway Use Tax return and New York Highway Use Tax return.  We used to charge for each return.  Now, all of these are a single price.  As for the pricing, we have a couple of options, recurring billing as well as pay per quarter.  The pricing can be seen on our pricing page.

We hope you like the changes!

Managing IFTA Fuel Tax Rates

The other day, we were wanting to find a simple chart of IFTA fuel tax rates for the past few years.  We wanted to sort the rates from highest tax rate to lowest.  We only were interested in Diesel fuel and only in US dollars. We obviously started at the source and checked out www.iftach.org.  You can download the fuel tax rates for a given quarter, but the way they are presented is very difficult to use.  Then I did a simple Google search for IFTA fuel tax rates and came up with the following:

http://www.truckmiles.com/taxrates.asp#IFTA%20Tax
Besides their information being from 2002, their ‘Printable HTML’ link didn’t work in my browser and their Excel file was absolutely terrible.

http://www.fastenterprises.com/downloads/Cda_V02/201001.txt
These guys provide you rates if you have a database available.

http://www.tax.state.ny.us/pdf/2010/motor/ifta105.pdf and http://www.docstoc.com/docs/7968094/IFTA-FUEL-TAX-RATE-CHART/
This are very typical of most sites.  The information is clear, but I can’t do anything with it.

We decided to create the page we were searching for.  It is now located at www.iftaplus.com/ifta-fuel-rates.htm.  The page provides a simple to use interface that allows you to filter fuel types and sort based on Jurisdiction or tax rate.  We also provide an Excel version of the original information we used from www.iftach.org.

We hope your next search for IFTA fuel tax rates brings you to our page and you can avoid the frustrations we initially spent.

Top 7 IFTA Plus Questions

IFTA Plus is the default IFTA fuel tax preparation software for over 3000 companies.  If you are looking for an immediate, affordable, accurate, and proven online fuel tax preparation software, IFTA Plus is a great choice.  Read what a few of our customers have to say about us.

1) Does IFTA Plus prepare my IFTA fuel tax return for me?
Yes, our IFTA Plus software prepares your fuel tax return.  However, when the return is prepared is determined by you. You enter your own miles driven and fuel purchased in our easy to use screens.  Once entered,  you can immediately prepare your return.  30 seconds later, your return is prepared and sent to you via email.

2) What states can you prepare?
We can prepare all US states except for Minnesota, Idaho and Utah.  We support miles driven in Canada, but don’t currenly support Canadian returns.  Canadian returns are scheduled for 2nd quarter 2010.

3) How fast can I generate my IFTA return?
This depends on how much information you have.  If you have your mileage driven per state and fuel purchased per state, you can sign up, enter your data, and print your return in about 15 minutes.  If you have a lot of trucks and data, you can use our bulk upload excel spreadsheet speed up the data entry process.  Once your information is entered, IFTA Plus creates your state fuel tax return in about 20 seconds.

4) Do I pay my fuel taxes online?
No.  IFTA Plus does not collect any money owed to your state.  We only collect $25 to prepare your return.  You are responsible for printing out the return, signing it, and sending a check to your state if taxes are owed.

5) Can I manage multiple companies with a single account?
Yes.  If you are responsible for preparing returns for separate companies, you can create an account hierarchy that lets you change between all companies.

6) Can you prepare past quarters and do you calculate penalties?
Of course we can.  We can prepare any fuel tax return for any quarter since Q1 2006, our first quarter in business.  We will also calculate any past penalties imposed by your state.

7) Do you store my returns?
Yes, we store a copy of your return on our servers forever.  If you ever need to refer to past returns, we always have a version saved.

Don’t forget the 4 Required Steps to File your IFTA Fuel Taxes.

Do you have any IFTA Plus questions?
